Village Improvement Programme in 33 villages on Wari Marg
There are approximately 135 villages on the Dehu, Alandi to Pandharpur Wari Marg. About one million people pass through each of these villages every year on the occasion of Pandharpur Wari. Due to Wari, a huge amount of garbage is generated for 18 to 28 days. This garbage contains a large amount of plastic, thermocol, silver foils and many other items. This waste spreads awkwardly in all the fields along the route. However, the farmers have to bear the adverse effects. Another major problem is water scarcity. It is obvious that after the arrival of 1 million people in a village of 1000, 1500 population, there will be unbearable stress on all systems. This will have an effect on those villages for the next few months.
Many measures must be implemented on a permanent basis in these villages to relieve the stress caused by Wari and to properly manage it. To begin, we are launching the Village Improvement Campaign in 33 villages. The Cummins India Foundation has played an important role in this. Many activities are taking place in these villages, including water conservation, scientific cow-based farming, water management, and the use of patravalis and drones made from natural leaves rather than plastic and thermocol plates.
